Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women.
Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908 by a group of twenty students, led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women.
Consisting of college-educated women of many diverse backgrounds from around the world, including, but not limited to, African, Caucasian, Asian, Native American, Hispanic and Indian descent, the sorority serves through a membership of more than 250,000 women in over 900 chapters in the United States and several other countries.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
The Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered onto the campus of Pepperdine University on November 20, 2011 by Genesis 12. Their hard work and dedication has allowed Tau Lambda chapter to be the first black greek organization to come onto Pepperdine University campus.
